CHURCH
MINISTRIES
GENERAL
All ministries of the church shall be under
church control and follow proper clearance.
Special programs shall be submitted in advance and approved by the
Pastor and Deacon Board before said event takes place. All officers are elected by the church and
will report regularly to the church.
SUNDAY SCHOOL MINISTRY
There
shall be a Sunday school, and it shall convene at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday
morning. It shall be divided into
departments and classes for all ages and conducted under the direction of the
Sunday school Superintendent for the study of God's Word.
The tasks of the Sunday school shall be to
teach the biblical relation; to reach persons for Christ and church membership;
to perform the functions of the church within its constituency; to provide and
to interpret information regarding the work of the church and denomination.
The Sunday School Superintendent shall be
responsible for promoting and encouraging the success of the Sunday School
classes and activities, including, but not limited to: teachers training,
curriculum evaluation, and working with teachers to increase enrollment in
Sunday School. The Superintendent as
well as all teachers should be regular attendance in Bible Study.
MISSIONARY UNION
There shall be a Missionary Union/Society
with such officers and organization as needed.
The tasks of the Missionary Union/Society shall be to teach missions; to
engage in mission action; to support world missions through praying and giving;
to provide and to interpret information regarding the work of the church and
the denomination.
YOUTH MINISTRY
The fourth Sunday of each month shall be set
aside for the youth. This department
shall be responsible for setting up the program for worship services for this
particular day. The main function of
this department is to teach and train all youth of this church to give service
such as becoming better Christian, leaders, and citizens. The Director of the Youth Ministry shall
cooperate with the Missionary Society in organizing and maintaining all young
people's missionary organizations. It is
responsible for training new and present leaders of the young people's
organizations. The director shall
provide manuals or guides for each young people's organization and be ready to
assist counselors and leaders with their plans. A detailed calendar of all
youth programs and activities should be provided to the pastor at the beginning
of year for approval.
The Director of the Youth Ministry should be
faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance as well as Bible Study.
God's Little Angels Nursery
God's Little Angels Church Nursery is
designed for children ages 0-3. Children are a gift from God…and God has
entrusted us with their care and nurture. It is said that "it takes a
whole village to raise a child" and we, as the Body of Christ at Eighth
Street, believe that "it takes a whole congregation to nurture a child in
faith." Each child should have a
Care Information Sheet on file so that all nursery workers are aware of food
allergies and/or other special needs. Parents must sign children in and children
must be picked up by a parent. They must provide diapers, wipes and a change of
clothes in a labeled diaper bag for those children who are in diapers. They
must also bring a snack and/or beverage for their child to have during their
visit. It is recommended strongly that
each parent should volunteer to work in the Nursery once a month. There
should be at least two Adult volunteers in the Nursery at all times. This is required by the Department of Human Services. No children between the ages of 5 - 17 should
be allowed to work in the Church Nursery.
All workers should be properly screened
BROTHERHOOD MINISTRY
There shall be a
Brotherhood with such organization as needed. This program shall be directed by
a director who shall be elected by the church.
The Brotherhood is tasked:
- to teach missions
- to engage in mission actions
- to inspire and upgrade the men and
boys
- to support world missions through
praying and giving
- to provide and to interpret
information regarding the work of the church and the denomination
The Director of the Brotherhood should be
faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance as well as Bible Study.
MOTHER BOARD MINISTRY
The Mother Board shall teach and support the
pastor and the church. They shall help
build every auxiliary of the church.
They shall also do other assignments as requested when there is a need.
The members on the Mother's Board shall be
responsible for the following: (1) Have all the necessary Lord's Supper
equipment and materials in place prior to each observance of the
ordinance. (2) Arrange for all Lord's
Supper equipment to be gathered, cleaned and stored after the observance. (3) Recommend purchase of additional
equipment. (4) Maintain an inventory at
all times in order that projections can be made for purchase of equipment or
materials and communicate this information to the deacons.
DEACONESS MINISTRY (Romans 16:1)
The mission of the Deaconess Ministry
is to meet the needs of the Eighth Street Baptist Church, under the spiritual
guidance of the Pastor and the Deacons by promoting the spiritual growth in the
church.
1 Timothy 8:11 - "Even so must their wives be grave, not slanders, sober,
faithful in all things."
The purpose of the Deaconess Ministry is to care for and assist the needs of
the overall congregation. Wherever there are sick and shut-in members as well
as members in need of prayer, the Deaconess Ministry will be there to help.
They will be in contact with all sick members and monitor the prayer list to
ensure that members are not alone. They are responsible for the preparation and
setting up Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The Deaconess
should instruct all female baptismal candidates as to what they are supposed to
wear,
Deaconess should possess the following qualities:
She must be a follower of Christ also Christ-like, so much that her life will
be outstanding and praised by all whom she comes in contact with.
· She should be a serious minded person, well balanced and one
who knows the value of spiritual things, she should be grave, not slanderers,
temperate and faithful in all things.
· She should support the Pastor and the vision of the
ministry.
The Deaconess Ministry shall assist the
minister and deacons in their work to promote spiritual growth of the church;
Assist candidates with preparation for baptism; assist mothers with preparing
the Communion Table; visit the sick and bereaved families; and care for the
needy and help the discouraged. All
Deaconess should be faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance as well
as Bible Study.
USHER MINISTRY
The Ushers are to greet people as they enter
and leave the church; seat people at the proper time; provide bulletin and/or
other materials at the time of seating.
The ushers will be attentive to the needs of the congregation and the
pastor. The Usher President should be faithful and dedicated in Sunday School
attendance as well as Bible Study.
GREETERS MINISTRY
The Greeters meet/greet each person whether member or visitor with a smile/hug/handshake that will let them know that they are truly welcome at Eighth Street Missionary Baptist Church; and that this and all future greeting will encourage them to return to our church. We welcome them as if we are welcoming our best friend to our homes. We exude love because God is love. I Peter 5:14, Greet each other with Christian love.
HEALTH & WELLNESS MINISTRY
The Nurses Guild is an organization made up
of volunteer members of the church, formed for mutual aid and protection and to
give service in the church and community.
Services include: first aid, emergency care, hospital visits, church
service, funerals, health fairs, lectures and CPR instructions. Any member of the church who is interested in
nursing services - Professionals or non-professionals, male or female over fourteen
years of age may become a member of the Nurses Guild. Members should either have experience in
health care or have completed a course in Red Cross First Aid or CPR. The head
of this ministry should be faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance
as well as Bible Study.
AUTUMN AGE MINISTRY
Autumn
Age is the name of our Senior Ministry at Eighth Street. Activities
are planned on a monthly basis. These activities include luncheons with
games and entertainment, day trips and overnight trips. On occasion,
a trip will be planned for more than a one-night stay. All seniors are
encouraged to participate in this great ministry! It's a chance to
fellowship with individuals your own age and just have good clean fun!
HEART TO HEART WOMEN MINISTRY
Heart to Heart Women Ministry is for all
women of the church. This ministry is designed to provide a time of fellowship
for the ladies and an opportunity for unified prayer. The head of this ministry
should be faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance as well as Bible
Study.
The B.O.M.B. (Bone of My Bone) COUPLES MINISTRY
The
B.O.M.B. Couples Ministry's purpose is to assist couples in every stage of
relational development to create a God-honoring marriage that thrives on
commitment, intimacy and growth. When couples forge ahead with God they become
a light of hope to others. A husband and
wife shall lead this ministry who is committed to helping couples build Christ
centered marriages that will last a lifetime, be a light to the world, and
leave a legacy to future generations. The head of this ministry should be
faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance as well as Bible Study.
POETRY MINISTRY
The
Poetry Ministry is for all ages. This
ministry will minister to the church and un-church through poetry.
CHURCH WEBMASTER
The Church Webmaster, in cooperation with the
Pastor, shall be responsible for maintaining the accounts and services
necessary to continue the official church website located at
http://www.esmbc.com and regularly update the website's content with material
that is timely, informative, and presented in a manner and format that is
professional and a credit to the Church's reputation and mission. The webmaster
shall also assist and advise the Pastor with the maintenance and purchase of
Church-owned computer hardware, software and other technological products or
issues.
CHURCH MUSIC
There shall be a Church Music program under
the direction of the minister of music.
Such officers and/or organizations shall be included as needed. The minister of music task shall be to teach
music; to train persons to lead, to sing, and play music; to provide music in
the church and community; to provide and to interpret information regarding the
work of the church and the denomination. The head of this ministry should be
faithful and dedicated in Sunday School attendance as well as Bible Study.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
The Media Ministry is responsible for the recording and distribution of tape messages for all services as directed by the Pastor. They make sure all the equipment is in working order and all supplies are available for a successful running ministry.

COMMITTEES
Beautification Committee
The purpose of the Beautification Committee
is to maintain the décor of the church inside and out.
Benevolence Committee
The benevolence committee shall have a
chairperson appointed by the Pastor and the Board of Deacons. The chairperson shall select as many
co-workers as needed to fulfill the needs of the membership and community. FUNCTION: To show generosity toward others: The poor (Gal. 2:10); The Needy (Eph. 4:28);
God's Servants (Phil. 4:14-17); Measured Up; Ability, Love, Sacrifice and
bountifulness
Bereavement Committee
The Bereavement Coordinator shall be
responsible for coordinating the efforts of the Church to minister to bereaved
persons, including but not necessarily limited to providing meals and
cooperating with the Worship Committee on flowers and services, as needed.
Flower Committee
The flower committee is responsible for
securing, arranging, and disposing of floral arrangements for church services
and for providing flowers for bereaved members.
Historian Committee
The history committee is to preserve and use
the historical records of the church.
The committee is especially concerned with gathering and preserving
available church records, recording full and accurate records, and using the
records to help members understand and appreciate their heritage and mission. The
Church Historian, in cooperation with the Pastor, shall be responsible for
providing for the preservation and storage of Church archives, records, and
documents.
Kitchen Committee
The principal function of this committee is
to be responsible for supervision of the kitchen and dining area of the
church. The chairman of this committee
shall work with the custodian on scheduling of events on Saturdays: maintain
and enforce high standards of cleanliness. The chairman shall keep the church
officers informed of (1) equipment needed and conditions of the same (2) misuse of facility and equipment (3) inventory of items in the kitchen that
belong to the church.
Librarian Committee
The Church library will serve as the resource
center for the church. The church
library staff will seek to provide and promote the use of printed and
audiovisual resources. The staff will
also provide consultation to church leaders and members in the use of printed
and audiovisual resources. The Church Librarian, in cooperation with the
Pastor, shall be responsible for organizing and maintaining library resources
and keeping accurate records of borrowed and returned resources.
New Membership Committee
Duties of the Personnel Committee includes: (1) Study and recommend the need for
additional church staff positions. (2) Prepare and update positions, job
descriptions for all salaried positions.
(3) Recruit, interview, and
recommend new personnel. (4) Develop and recommend a
salary for each employee. (5) Develop and recommend policies and
procedures for staff members. (6) Prepare and update the
organizational chart.
